In the heart of the Puget Sound region, just east of Seattle, lies one of the Pacific Northwest’s most accomplished public school system, Lake Washington School District, the second-largest school district in Washington.
LWSD serves communities known for their beautiful neighborhoods, abundant parks and waterfront trails, and spectacular views of the Cascade Mountains. Home to Microsoft, Nintendo, and major operations of Google and Amazon, the region is a center of innovation and opportunity. Yet what distinguishes these communities is also their longstanding commitment to public education—a commitment that has helped transform Lake Washington School District into one of Washington’s most respected school systems.
With the upcoming retirement of its longtime finance executive, LWSD is now seeking its next Chief Financial Officer. The next leader will inherit a strong foundation of financial stewardship, an experienced financial services team, and a community with a history of supporting its schools. This is an opportunity to build on that legacy while helping guide the district’s financial future.
You’ll work alongside a superintendent with a deep understanding of school finance and an executive team committed to the success of students. Reporting directly to Superintendent Jon Holmen, you’ll serve as one his most senior advisors, bringing financial expertise and strategic judgment to decisions that shape teaching, learning, and the district’s long-term stability. Your work will help sustain the financial strength that allows Lake Washington to pursue its ambitious goals for all 29,000 of its students.
We seek an accomplished financial leader who combines technical depth with sound judgment, integrity, and a commitment to service. Strategic oversight of the finances of a complex public entity is a key qualification, and the ability to communicate clearly and credibly to a variety of audiences will be essential. Equally important will be the ability to listen, learn the district’s context, develop staff, and build productive relationships with school leaders and association partners. And as enrollment and resource needs change, the next Chief Financial Officer will help align resources with educational priorities, support thoughtful improvements in financial systems, and maintain the confidence of the Superintendent, Board, staff, and community.
We invite you to consider this opportunity to lead alongside dedicated colleagues in communities that believe deeply in their public schools. Please visit the Lake Washington search landing page for additional information.
Salary is $245,915 to $250,934. Applications will be accepted through 5:00 p.m. on December 15, 2026. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2027; however, an earlier transition would be welcomed.
